Leading Nonprofit Fundraising Strategist and Former Senior Convio Consultant,
Matt McCabe, Joins MPower As Vice President of Community

DALLAS, TEXAS (October 21, 2008) – MPower – which provides the most open, flexible, and powerful software for nonprofit constituent relationship management (CRM) and fundraising – today announced that top nonprofit consultant, Matt McCabe, has joined the company as Vice President of Community.

This newly created position on MPower’s leadership team reflects the company’s resolute commitment to developing and supporting the growing community of its clients, users and partners as well as the broader nonprofit market.

MPower is the only mature, full feature, open source constituent relationship management (CRM) software specifically for nonprofits. Because MPower is open source, it is not only available without licensing fees, but users have access to the source code and are free to modify the software to develop new functionality that then also is shared with all users.

So fostering a vibrant community ensures that all users get the most value from MPower, making it easy to partner with one another on development as well as share applications and knowledge. Additionally, non-MPower users and the general nonprofit market benefit by having access to best practices information and strategic expertise on CRM and fundraising – which is valuable regardless of the technology solutions they use.

McCabe’s Strong Record

“In this new role, Matt will be a huge asset to the entire nonprofit community – he is one of today’s top consultants for fundraising strategy and technology, and has tremendous passion for the important work that charitable groups do,” said John P. Donohue, Executive Vice President of UNCF-the United Negro College Fund.

“Matt is extremely knowledgeable about how nonprofits operate and their pain points when it comes to managing constituent relationships to optimize giving,” Donohue added. “Just as importantly, he is masterful at guiding organizations through implementation and application of the most appropriate CRM and fundraising technologies and strategies.”

In addition to UNCF-the United Negro College Fund, McCabe has worked with a wide variety of nonprofits in the United States and abroad including American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and The ONE Campaign (cofounded by U2 lead vocalist, Bono, to fight global poverty, hunger and disease in developing countries), plus U.K.-based Tearfund and The Children’s Society.

New Community Initiatives

At MPower, McCabe plans to build the MPower community both offline and online with programs and initiatives that may include:

  • A software application exchange for nonprofit professionals to share extensions, integrations, modules, widgets, and workflow innovation;
  • A services exchange so organizations can easily find consultants and agencies to help with technology, marketing, fundraising, fulfillment, operations and more;
  • Advice on technology implementation and fundraising strategies from experts at nonprofits and companies serving charitable organizations;
  • Forums for sharing practical, day-to-day user and product tips to save time and also improve efficiency and results; and
  • A free “Ask the Expert” marketing and fundraising forum so nonprofit professionals can get answers to basic questions about cultivating constituencies to drive giving – without having to pay exorbitant, professional consulting fees.

“I am joining MPower because this is a company that’s figured out the right way to work with nonprofits by providing powerful, open source technology products and building a community for sharing technology and knowledge,” said McCabe.  “All the other vendors are selling proprietary solutions with big fees for licensing, customization and consulting, so they’re focused on how much organizations will spend rather than what organizations need. This results in recycling the same elementary technology integrations and best practice principles while charging $200-plus an hour. At MPower, I look forward to putting the user’s needs and the nonprofit community first.”

Prior to MPower, McCabe was a Washington, D.C-based Principal Consultant leading a team of professionals at Convio, an Internet fundraising company serving a wide range of nonprofit groups. Before that, McCabe was Director of New Media for Premier Media Group, which operates multiple faith-oriented media properties – including a radio station, four magazines, an online TV station and other content delivery services –serving London and other U.K. markets.

Additionally, McCabe is a frequent speaker at nonprofit conferences and writes for nonprofit trade publications and Web sites.
