MPower Now Enables Nonprofits to Leverage Single Database of Constituents from all Sister Organizations and Affiliates
Key For Identifying Major Donors and Optimizing Fundraising
DALLAS, TEXAS (September 4, 2008) – MPower, which provides the most open, flexible, and powerful software for nonprofit constituent relationship management (CRM) and fundraising, today announced availability of its multi-organization solution which gives nonprofits with sister groups, affiliates and chapters the ability to have a single constituent database – key for optimizing fundraising.
Now, multi-organization nonprofits, especially national and international groups, can have one central database that automatically captures critical constituent data from related entities as those entities enter the data into their individual systems. That data includes constituent name, contact details, motivations and interests, giving history, volunteer status, communication preferences (e.g., email versus postal mail and phone), and more.
The parent organization then can get a complete view of all supporters to better understand their motivations and giving patterns, and also identify prospects for major giving. This knowledge and insight allows the nonprofit to more effectively market to all constituents and cultivate current as well as potential major donors.
MPower’s multi-organization solution:
- Puts all affiliated organizations under one “umbrella,” minimizing the operational complexity of having multiple instances of MPower running at the same time;
- Creates a common pool of donors and codes for more effective management of constituent accounts (address, phone number, motivation code, etc.); and
- Keeps transactional and inventory data separate in each entity’s own system. While information on people is shared, each affiliated organization stores and manages its own information related to accounting, inventory pricing, media contracts, and other transactions.
RBC Ministries, which markets books, music and multi-media products through a sister nonprofit, Discovery House Publishers, already is using MPower’s multi-organization solution. Both groups have U.S. and Canadian constituent databases but, with MPower, now are able to share a common pool of donors while each keeps its transactions separate.
“Although other vendors claim to have multi-organization functionality, nothing comes close to MPower’s solution, which solves a very real challenge for so many nonprofits,” said Tom Grothause, Director of Information Technology.
“If we didn’t have MPower’s multi-company solution, we would face the challenge of synchronizing four constituent databases of 7 million people each or constructing a labyrinth system of codes to attempt to jam all four organizations’ transactional databases into a single system,” Grothause said. “Either scenario would have been a complete nightmare but, instead, our users now can sign into four different MPower sessions (one per organization) and simply toggle between windows to handle all transactions.”
Fourth New MPower Product in As Many Weeks
MPower is the only mature, full feature, open source CRM solution specifically developed for nonprofit organizations. Because it is open source, MPower is available without licensing fees and users have access to the source code so they can modify the software to meet their nonprofits’ unique needs – versus being held hostage by a vendor whose product roadmap may not include the specific functionality they need.
Because MPower is open source software, users can access and modify the source code to develop new features and functionality that then can be shared with the entire user community. The company also continues to develop the product and support user contributed innovations. As a result of product innovation by both users and the company’s team of developers, MPower is able to deliver new solutions much faster than proprietary vendors who typically have limited development staff and product roadmaps.
MPower’s multi-organization solution is the fourth new product announced by the company in as many weeks. In early August, the company announced new user-developed functionality including: a comprehensive event management system that integrates with MPower; an application that provides mobile access to donor profiles in MPower; and integration with Interprise Suite, a leading shopping cart and eCommerce software solution.
